History

History

East Coast Diesel was founded in 1993 by Michael Carter and Barrie Bailey.

Sue Carter, Mick’s wife, joined the business as accounts director soon after, taking care of the paperwork.

It was predominantly looking after the local Marine, Industrial and Plant markets, which is still continuing to this very day.

As the requirement for diesel engine overhauls and servicing increased, East Coast Diesel flourished.

A larger premises and workforce was required to cope with the increase in demand and soon engine manufacturers and parts suppliers were knocking on the door to represent them in the area.

This included brands such as IPD and FP Diesel and this helped the parts business grow alongside the service.

East Coast Diesel were soon providing support not only to local and UK businesses but worldwide also.

Soon after, other manufacturers asked East Coast Diesel to represent them as the reputation of the quality of the engine rebuilds and parts support became well known.

East Coast Diesel took on brands such as MAN, Scania, Doosan and with the product range expanding, we were also asked to represent JMP, a manufacturer of high quality raw water pumps and strainers.

After Barry Bailey retired, East Coast Diesel were approached by the Gardline Group to become equal shareholders as a positive move to support the Survey vessels they owned and vessels they built for the windfarm market at Alicat Workboats.

They moved into premises on the same site as Alicat Workboats which is our current premises.

Michael Carter’s two sons Adam and Lee were then involved in the business with Adam as an engineer and Lee in the office working within parts.

They have all progressed within the business with Adam now senior service engineer and Lee taking up the general manager’s role.

Jack Carter the youngest son joined the business and is currently learning his trade as a service engineer.

Today East Coast Diesel have expanded the business, now supplying a wide range of products that the industries they work in require.

Now working in the offshore market our reputation has grown utilising our experienced workforce to provide parts and labour further enhancing the growth of the company.

Providing 24/7 service all year round we look to future with optimism that East Coast Diesel will be providing support to it’s customers for many years to come.
